MY REVIEWS

OVERALL VERDICT >>>>> LOVE

RATING >>>>>>>>>>>>>> 5

My skin type:

Dry/Combination Oily (T-zone), Uneven skin tone with lots of freckles on cheeks. Also, sensitive around the cheek area.

Just a note:

I generally do not wear make up except for sunscreen. On a daily basis, it's only my skin care and sunscreen, that's all.

How long have I used this:

About a year since it launched. This is my first Shu Uemura's cleansing oil ever.

Will I repurchase:

Absolutely. This is already my third bottle. Bought the 150ml size twice and got the 450ml bottle this time around. It's cheaper.

Ahh my love affair with Shu Uemura started with this baby. It was one of the first things I've ever purchased from Shu Uemura. Not the first product I've tried but the first I've purchased. For me, that says a lot. I usually don't just simply purchase products without sampling but after trying it at the boutique itself, I fell in love.

It really is the answer to all of my skin concerns. All three cleansing oils I've sampled from Shu has served they're own purposes with focus on different aspects of the skin but to me, Blanc Chroma is the closest to what I want in a skin care and that is a product that can specifically help lighten my dark spots.

I love my freckles don't get me wrong. The freckles on my face represents my identity in a way. I'm not being contradictory here. It's all about the level of clarity of the spots. While for some, the color of their freckles are light and can be covered with make up, for others their dark spots can be really dark that it becomes the focus of the face, just not in a good way. It's the same like how people focus on the food that's stuck on your front tooth while you speak. It's a not a pleasant feeling.

Luckily for me, I'm one of the former. My freckles are apparent, yes, but not at all at a disturbing level to me. But if I don't try to lighten them from now when I'm still considerably young, it will darken as I age so in order to prevent that, I'm trying my best to use products that lighten while inhibit the production of pigmentation.

Now let's get into the product itself.

Starting with the first impressions, the texture and the smell. When the promoter pumped it into my hand, I can feel that the consistency is more liquidy than the first cleansing oil I've ever used (DHL's). It has a smooth texture and a pleasant floral smell. I find the scent to be a little strong at first but learned that it goes away gradually after washing. Like Anti/Oxi, once emulsified, it gets very drippy and annoying but that's not enough of a reason to stop using.

After washing I get this squeaky clean feeling! It doesn't feel matte like with Anti/Oxy but it felt supple and moisturized. Ahh, just the way I like my skin to feel. It's just the perfect overall feeling. On my T-zone, it didn't feel oily but on my dry areas, my skin feels hydrated. Yippee!

Removing make up was relatively easy with this one although compared to Anti/Oxy, it doesn't remove eye make up as easily. The results after washing is exactly the same as Ultime8 and Anti/Oxy with only eye make up residue left after using cotton pad with toner. But my skin feels super soft, supple and hydrated. Plus, my skin looks noticeably bright and radiant after every use.

My skin condition after finishing the sample is a slightly brighter, glowing, radiant skin. It definitely revived my dull skin. However, after using it for a year, I wouldn't say it gradually lightens my dark spots. It just gives me that brightening and glowing effect as and when I use it. In other words, if I use it, I see results otherwise, it doesn't dramatically change my skin. But I'll take it. I love how my skin look and feel after each use and that's more than enough for me.

Obviously this is another one of my MUST HAVES. I just love the experience it gives, from beginning to end.

PROS

  • Skin feels squeaky clean and soft to touch.

  • Skin appears smooth, brighter, radiant and glowing as claimed.

  • Non-greasy, non-oily.

  • Removes make-up fast and efficiently. (including stubborn eye make-up, amazing really)

  • 2-in-1: Overall make-up remover and facial cleanser.

  • Has a nice mild floral smell, very calming, not at all overwhelming.

  • Worth the price considering it's usage.

  • Well known, considerably easy-to-find brand.

CONS

  • Skin must be dry prior to using (I wash my face the first thing, so yeah...)

  • Once emulsified, it becomes all drippy making it messy.

  • Pricey. Not over-the-counter brand price.

  • My freckles did not lighten despite long usage.
